I can see it if the grandmother in question has discussed with the parents about helping care for the child while the parents work or some thing and the parents agreed to it ahead of time. That was not the case for the person posting though. I know of plenty of grandparents who buy cribs or other basic baby items to have on hand when their grandchildren visit - my mother bought a pack-n-play, highchair, and a gate for the stairs as the first grandchild got older. I can really see the need for safety devices, as many grandparents probably got rid of those years ago, if they even had them then. But clothing and stuff like that???? And are not the grandparents often the ones buying that stuff for their children to have at their own home for the coming addition?

I guess when I read the original post it was of a MIL who thought she was going to do all kinds of stuff - like fill in as mother - that made it more unappealing.
