I can't imagine how it wouldn't taste like pumpkin pie if you put pumpkin pie spice in it! It surely won't have the same consistency, however... because the pie has a bunch o' eggs in it.
Did you use actual "Pumpkin Pie Spice?" Or did you try to "create" something? A little goes a long way with the spice mix.
I've never actually heard of doing it the way you suggest. However, I have heard of using canned pumpkin + water to mix a dry cake mix... and have it taste just like pumpkin pie. It doesn't, however! LOL!
