What kind of ink is it? That can happen with crappy ink but also I noticed it does take somewhat of a learning curve to stamp. I used to smear all the time even using good ink but the more i did it the better I got. One thing I noticed...i have to have the paper Im stamping on lower than I am, so if I am stamping I have to stand or Kneel on my chair to get a good impression(since Im such a midget)

.....if I am doing it at chest level, It gets all goofy....if I am looking down on the paper and pressing the stamp straight down I do better....also you can buy a stamp a ma jig

that helps you line up the stamp for perfect placement...I use it when I use letter and number stamps so they are all in an even row. You can buy them at any craft store that sells stamps-Michaels or Joann.
